MUMBAI, Jan. 3

NICHOLAS Piramal India Ltd (NPIL) plans to launch 10 new products through its newly-formed respiratory division, ACTIS.

The company, which recently acquired Rhone-Poulenc, expects a revenue worth Rs 325-330 crore through ACTIS and Rhone-Poulenc, of which 20 per cent will be contributed by the new products.

Mr Sainath Iyer, President — Sales and Marketing, NPIL told presspersons this, on the sidelines of the launch of ACTIS' new brand — Airitis.

Airitis or levocitirizine is a new generation anti-histamine, to treat seasonal nose and throat allergies. The ACTIS division will follow this product with 10 other anti-allergic respiratory drugs, Mr Iyer said.

"The company is looking towards synergising the expertise of Rhone-Poulenc in the cough and cold market and extend it to the entire range of respiratory critical care," he said.

The focus would be on the Rs 350-crore anti-allergic market which is growing at 20 per cent every year. Of the company's total marketing expenditure, 25 to 30 per cent would be spent on anti-allergic drugs' awareness campaign, he said. The company has already begun the campaign through the launch of a training programme for ENT doctors. NPIL has invited world-renowned otologist (ear specialist) Dr Ugo Fisch, Head of ENT Department, University Hospital, Zurich, to conduct courses for 200 ENT doctors in India.

The company plans to organise more such sessions as part of its marketing plan, Mr Iyer said.

ACTIS will increase its workforce to 250 by April 2003. When combined with that of Rhone-Poulenc, the workforce will swell to around 500 employees, he said.
