Industry Associations FICCI meet on tax, corporate laws from Jan 15 Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, Jan. 4 TO put forth the views of India Inc on the issues concerning the industry before the forthcoming Union Budget, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) will organise a two-day annual convention on tax and corporate laws from January 15. "The federation feels that before the Budget issues concerning corporate India can be raised at the forum," FICCI officials told Business Line. Besides, the convention has assumed significance in view of the reports of the task force on direct taxes and the task force on indirect taxes chaired by Dr Vijay L Kelkar as well as the Naresh Chandra Committee report on the auditor-company relationship, FICCI said. The conference would discuss issues of current importance in the field of taxation and corporate laws, officials said. Besides the inaugural session, there would be five symposiums to discuss issues concerning direct taxation, indirect taxation and corporate laws. Elaborating further, FICCI said that the first symposium would address the issues pertaining to policy aspects concerning corporate and personal taxation. The second symposium would discuss and debate on procedural simplification in direct tax laws and the third would concentrate on issues related to value added tax emerging issues and solutions thereto. Besides these, the fourth would address the issues relating to central excise and customs, and the final symposium would debate on issues connected to corporate laws. Some of the key speakers at the inaugural session include Ms Lalita Gupte, Deputy Managing Director, ICICI Bank, and Mr K.G. Ramachandran, Chairman and Managing Director, Bharat Heavy Electricals, on competitiveness of the Indian industry.
