Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: Mr Moheb Ali M, Chief Commissioner of Customs and Central Excise, on Monday assured members of the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) that he would take up with the authorities concerned the matter of setting up a bench of the Customs, Excise Gold Control Appellate Tribunal (CEGAT) in Hyderabad.

At an interaction session with the members on matters relating to Central Excise and Customs, he said that due to frequent changes in indirect taxation, officers at the lower level were unable to come to terms with realities and this was giving rise to occasional irritants to assesses.

The reforms process had already brought in some radical changes in the functioning of the department personnel and matters would be straightened out in a couple of years.

Mr M. Chidananda Rao, Joint Secretary of FAPCCI, highlighted the issues facing the members and sought clarifications from the officials.
