Iran ready to increase crude export volume

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, Jan. 27

THE Iranian President, Mr Syed Mohammad Khatami, said that his country was prepared to raise the volume of crude oil exports to India.

Addressing the captains of industry at a luncheon here, he said that Iran welcomed all types of investments by the Indian petroleum companies in its gas and oil industry.

"The considerable gas reserves of our country have attracted the attention of many countries and, as a consequence of this, the export of gas to some customers through pipelines is now under way. The project of the gas pipeline of Iran to India too, in case the final decision is taken, can be implemented," he said.

The meeting was jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

Mr Khatami said that Iran was fully prepared to cooperate with India in investment and enforcement of common projects for the reconstruction of Afghanistan. "The cooperation of our two countries in the reconstruction of Afghanistan provides a great opportunity for both Indian and Iranian investors, industrialists and employers to exchange information and seek their close cooperation for the implementation of developmental projects in Afghanistan," he said.

The visiting dignitary also felt that there was scope and potential to expand the commercial, economic and industrial relations between the two countries.

"The growth in the production of industrial and agricultural commodities and the development of information technology in India has set new prospects for the enhancement of relations between the two. The existence of inexpensive sources of energy, and the existing suitable conditions for mutual investment in Iran, especially in the free and special economic areas, have created unique opportunities for the Indian investors," the Iranian President said.
