Tyres Truck, bus tyre output slips in Nov `02 Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, Jan. 27 TRUCK and bus tyre production slipped in November 2002 to 8.12 lakh against a production level of 8.36 lakh recorded in October 2002. The production performance in this category in November 2002 is also much lower to the best-ever performance of 8.42 lakh recorded in July last year. Production in this category touched a level of 8.23 lakh during September 2002. The comforting factor is that the production in November 2002 has logged a 25 per cent growth over the output in the corresponding month in 2001. Truck and bus tyres account for more than 70 per cent of the turnover of the domestic tyre industry. According to the latest data released here by the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers' Association (ATMA), exports of truck and bus tyres during November 2002 touched a level of 1.75 lakh tyres against an export level of 1.27 lakh tyres in the corresponding month last year. Both passenger car tyre production, by ATMA member companies, and light commercial vehicle (LCV) tyre production surged by more than 25 per cent during November 2002 against the production performance in these categories in the corresponding month during the previous year.
