Police action, thru the lens

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Feb. 13

AN anteroom in a football stadium is perhaps not the most appropriate venue for an exhibition of photographs. But strangely enough, the austere surroundings of a basement room in Thiruvananthapuram's Chandrashekaran Nair Stadium tend to enhance the impact of the photographs on display - photos that capture the diverse and often hostile conditions that the police force works in.

Titled `Impressions', the exhibition showcases the Kerala Police and offers the visitor a visual history of the origin and growth of the State's police force. The displays include a series of little-seen photographs that date back to the time when Travancore was a princely State.

Organised by the Kerala chapter of the IPS Officers Association, the exhibition features work by photographers from several newspapers including The Hindu, besides photographs taken by the Police Photography Bureau and promi- nent studios in the city.
