THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has drafted a detailed programme of action to help out those who are returning under the general amnesty scheme offered by the UAE Government.

Announcing this, the Minister for Information and Non-resident Keralite Affairs, Mr M.M. Hassan, told the State Assembly that the State Government had moved the Centre for subsidised fare on Air India flights carrying the returnees home. The Chief Minister has already written to the Prime Minister in this regard.

The State Government has constituted a Cabinet sub-committee comprising five Ministers for keeping a tab on the unfolding scenario. The committee has in turn held preparatory meetings with the authorities at the airports, the Passport Offices, emigration and airline officials on how to reach out to those who are returning home. The Railways too have been contacted with a request to operate special services from upcountry centres such as Mumbai. The State Road Transport Corporation has decided to offer free bus services from the three international airports to far-off destinations within the State, the Minister said.
