BRPL contracts 1.5 mt crude from Ravva field

NEW DELHI, Feb. 15

BONGAIGAON Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (BRPL), a subsidiary of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), has contracted 1.5 million tonnes of crude from Ravva oil field for the current fiscal, according to an official release.

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is the single largest stakeholder in the oil field with 40 per cent equity,.

The crude allocation will benefit the 2.3 million metric tonne per annum (mmtpa) BRPL as refineries located in the eastern part of the country suffer from under-utilisation.

Further, since crude from the Ravva field has low sulphur content, BRPL would not require to immediately undertake investments for upgradation of the existing refinery infrastructure to the tune of Rs 500 crore to produce Euro II fuels.

Currently, in the north eastern region, against an available refinery capacity of 7 mmtpa, only 5 mmtpa crude is available.
