Plastics Mukesh sees good future for plastics Our Bureau
The Vice-President, Mr Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, with Mr Mukesh Ambani, President, National Advisory Board, Plast India, and Chairman Reliance Industries Ltd, at the inaugural session of Plastindia 2003 in the Capital on Saturday.
NEW DELHI, Feb. 15 THE Reliance Industries Chairman, Mr Mukesh Ambani, sees immense growth prospects for the plastic industry, which is one of the fastest growing industries of the country. He also sees a new beginning for plastics that would defy the notion that innovation has ceased in the industry and returns cannot be generated from the industry. His optimism over good growth prospects comes even as India's per capita consumption of plastics has shown little improvement in the last few years. Addressing the inaugural session of Plastindia 2003, organised by Plastindia Foundation, as President of the National Advisory Board, Mr Ambani said that the plastic industry has to forge ahead in future through new products and new applications. "There is nothing called old and new industry. We live in a continuum of technological innovation," he said, while outlining some of the new areas of applications for plastics. Besides the increased acceptance (Australia and New Zealand) of usage of plastics as currency, Mr Ambani also highlighted that biological applications of plastics are spreading fast. He sees lot of potential for plastics in light emitting diodes and disposal computing applications. Mr Ambani also pointed out the changes in the notion that plastics cannot conduct electricity.
