Increase in power tariff decried

Our Bureau

BANGALORE: The Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Industry and Commerce (FKCCI) has regretted that the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) not acceded to its request for a rebate on fixed charges for industries located in rural areas and also exemption from payment of fixed charges for seasonal industries during off-seasons.

In a reaction to the new power tariff order passed on Monday, FKCCI President, Mr K.N.Jayalingappa said though the increase of the tariff by 10 paise might seem meagre, it should be viewed in the background of the industry being already overburdened apart from cross subsiding many other categories of consumers. FKCCI in fact wanted a reduction in the power tariff, he added.
