Insat-3A reaches destination

Our Bureau

BANGALORE: Insat-3A, ISRO's latest multipurpose satellite launched on April 10, has reached its designated orbital slot.

It may take about three more weeks before the satellite is commissioned and its transponder capacity is allocated among the private sector users, DD and DoT, ISRO sources said.

Meanwhile, the payloads on its 24 transponders and one for mobile satellite services will be tested.

The satellite, with a life of 12 years, has been placed at 93.5 degrees East longitude. A few days ago, its meteorological instruments — a special camera and a very high resolution — were tested. P>
