`Tech progress must benefit common man'

KOCHI, May 14

DETERMINED work is needed for the technological advancements, which can benefit the common man and to achieve this there is also a need for detailed planning in technological institutions, according to Dr G. Madhavan Nair, Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram.

Inaugurating the fourth seminar on `Technology for and of common man' jointly organised by the Swadeshi Science Movement and the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) here, Dr Nair said that in India scientific tradition, development and research focussed towards common man. "When India achieves this goal then only we will be proud of our scientific achievement".

According to him, the benefits obtained by research and development of space technology is three fold compared to the financial investment made in the field.

In his keynote address Dr K.I. Vasu, National President, Vijnana Bharati, said that India could excel in scientific field and develop with our own methodology.
