KOLKATA, June 16

THE Netaji Subhas Open University (NSOU) and Enterprise Development Institute (EDI) jointly promoted by the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and West Bengal Government, has launched a one-year diploma course on entrepreneurship development and small business management.

At a press conference, Dr Surabhi Banerjee, Vice-Chancellor of the University, said that the course was a unique collaborative effort between an industry association and an educational institution.

Dr Banerjee said the course had been prepared by entrepreneurs, academics and researchers. The counsellors of the course will be drawn from business, academe and civil service. The first academic session of the diploma course would begin in July.

In the study centre-oriented distance learning course, the evening classes would be supplemented by video-conferencing and on-the-job training. The first study centre for the course will be located at EDI in the city. She said the university had already set up 46 study centres in West Bengal for various other courses. By the end of this fiscal, the figure was likely to rise to 72.

The minimum qualification for joining the entrepreneurship development course was higher secondary exam clearance or equivalent. The course fee is Rs 5,000.

The University currently organises interactive radio-counselling in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi National Open University. However, NSOU is scheduled to air through its own FM radio station called Gyanvani, various training programmes.
