Hathway to use Bharti network for Delhi relay

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, June 16

MULTI-SYSTEM operators (MSOs) are gearing up for the implementation of the CAS (conditional access system.) The first among them is Hathway Cable & Datacom (Hathway) which has tied up with Bharti for utilising its network for distribution of digital cable TV and other broadband services in the Capital.

According to a statement, Hathway will be using over 150 km of Bharti's fibre optic network here. ``This will help Hathway to efficiently distribute its digital cable TV services from strategically placed head-ends in the Capital city,'' it said.

Hathway will be locating optical fibre nodes at various points in the network. This will substantially improve the quality of television signals and also enable other value-added services in the CAS through digital set-top boxes. The company is planning to set up more than 100 nodes across the city in the next one year, it said.

Meanwhile, in order to educate and inform consumers and partners on the advantages of CAS, Zee Turner Ltd, the distribution arm of Zee Telefilms and Turner International bouquet of channels, has launched a comprehensive training programme for cable operators in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. Titled `Smart Sellers', the training programme will be conducted by National Institute of Sales (NIS) in collaboration with Zee Turner executives.

Mr Sunil Khanna, CEO, Zee Turner said, ``Cable operators have always been an integral part of our business and are our brand ambassadors to the consumer. Being the leaders, we felt the need to organise a training programme for cable operators since CAS is all set to redefine their role. They will have to directly interface with the consumers on queries on STBs, channel frequencies and price-value proposition of channel bouquets. Thus, our programme will equip them with the necessary technical skills as well as help them develop soft skills to service their customers better.''
