Software Microsoft joins hands with JNTU Our Bureau
HYDERABAD, June 23 FOCUSSING on application development and research, Microsoft Corporation India, plans to roll out its academic developer programme aimed at forging strategic alliances with Indian varsities and building local language software and related skills. The Microsoft India Director of .Net and Developer Evangelism, Mr Dilip Mistry, said Microsoft will closely work with the universities in the areas of application development and research and reduce the gap between the industry needs and the academic community. As a part of this, Microsoft plans to partner and help universities create collaborative e-learning initiatives to serve as a reference intranet for the student community across various colleges. Explaining the background of this initiative, Mr Mistry said that more than 1.50 lakh Indian developers are working on .Net of the 2.5 million developers worldwide. This programme will help in building a .Net ecosystem to ensure that requisite skills and supporting tools and services realise the full potential. Speaking to newspersons after signing a MoU with the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, here today, the third such alliance after its earlier initiatives with the Anna Technological University and the Vishveshwariah University of Technology, Mr Mistry said that this is just the beginning of many such arrangements that will help create a new developer community. Under the alliance programme, thus far 12,000 students and 120 faculty members have been trained. With JNTU and its 220-affiliated colleges having over 30,000 students and 2,500 faculty members in various fields related to information technology, the MoU is aimed at empowering them with skills and resources required to address emerging industry needs. The academic programme provides for technology training, resources, development support and real life experiences to universities, helping them equip students with skills to leverage the emerging XML Web Services revolution. Under the alliance, Microsoft will provide the university with Microsoft Official curriculum including workbooks, manuals and interactive digital content. In addition, Microsoft will make relevant software available to the university through its alliance programme, which provides for special licensing option to the academic sector and will help train and upgrade skills.
