Kolkata , Aug. 1

COAL India Ltd (CIL) registered overall growth in coal sales billing, sales realisation, production, coal offtake, dispatch to power sector and wagon loading during the first quarter of the current fiscal.

According to CIL source, the billed amount rose from a level of about Rs 5,778 crore during April-June 2002 to about Rs 6,321 crore during the corresponding quarter this fiscal. Sales realisation too, improved to about Rs 6,241 crore from about Rs 5,511 crore.

CIL produced about 67 million tonnes during April-June 2003 compared to about 65 mt in the first quarter last year, recording a growth of 3.5 per cent. It dispatched about 72 mt against about 68 mt during the corresponding quarter last year, hence registering a growth of 5.85 per cent.

The source said this was achieved in spite of sporadic law and order problem in coalfields and a one-day mine strike. Coal dispatch to power sector, which is CIL's major consuming group, was about 55 mt during April-June 2003 against about 52 mt in the corresponding period last year.

During the quarter under review, wagon loading, measured in Four Wheeled Wagons ( FWW) was 19,490 wagons per day, which is all time record in a particular quarter.
