Kochi , Aug. 8

THE Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry together with Indo- German Chamber of Commerce and Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporaton (Kinfra) organised a one-day workshop on "Doing Business with Germany" here on Friday.

In his address, Mr Heimo Richter, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, acknowledged the growing potential for foreign investment in India and said that Germany, being the 6th major foreign investor globally, was interested in this sphere.

Business was a give and take policy in which Germany was one of the major beneficiaries as 1/4th of its revenue came from exports. He also expressed happiness over the healthy investment environment in Kerala and pointed out that close co-operation with Cochin Chamber and Indo-German Chamber would help in fulfilling the needs of the State.

In a presentation to the visiting German team on the investment opportunities in Kerala's infrastructure, the Kinfra Managing Director, Dr G.C. Gopala Pillai, said that the State Government had launched an aggressive drive to usher in private sector investment into various sectors of the State economy as part of its vision to develop the State as an investment-employment led economy that balances social imperatives with private enterprise.

The recently concluded Global Investor Meet has been a great success with private investment being attracted into sectors ranging across industry, tourism, information technology, real estate, petroleum and infrastructure. He pointed out that large infrastructure projects need development funding (concessional funding) to supplement or provide the base for future private sector investment, he added.

Mr Venu Nallur, Executive Director of the Kerala State Industries Development Corporation (KSIDC) also made his presentation on the present industrial scenario in the State. Mr N.R. Pai, President of the Cochin Chamber and Mr Ranjit Pratap, Chairman, Southern Region Council, Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, also spoke.
