States keen on tapping AP tourism scope

EYEING Andhra Pradesh as a potential source of tourists, a large number of State Governments, and travel operators from all over the country have sent in teams to the three-day Travel and Tourism Fair, which began here today.

Besides, representatives from the hospitality industry, too, were present at the fair being organised by the Fairfest Media Ltd.

The Tourism departments of Goa, Uttaranchal, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Diu have set up stalls at the fair to sell the tourism destinations in their respective States. South Africa, too, has set up a stall.

Inaugurating the fair, Mr Talasani Sriniva Yadav, Minister for Tourism and Culture, said the fair would go a long way in making the State the most preferred and most attractive tourism destination in the country.

"As part of our endeavour in this regard, the AP Tourism Development Corporation has tied up nine other States, including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh and Orissa, to offer package tours," he said. "The tourism sector has been steadily growing in the State. The sector's contribution to the State exchequer stands at 6.37 per cent, with an annual growth rate of 7.85 per cent," the Minister said.

In order to promoting AP as a tourist destination, the Government has started promoting at major national and international tourism marts and fairs. Mr Dinesh Dakua, Minister for Tourism of West Bengal, attended the fair.
