Kairali TV plans second channel

Thiruvananthapuram , Aug. 14

MALAYALAM Communications Ltd, which owns the Malayalam satellite television channel, Kairali TV, will launch a second television channel in the near future.

Work on this channel, which will focus on news-based programming, is currently on, said film actor, Mr Murali, who is one of the directors of the company. He was speaking at a press conference organised to announce the completion of three years of the channel's existence.

The channel, which went digital last month, is now looking at taking several of its popular programmes out of the studio so as to make them more participative, he said. The channel will organise special events in cities such as Chennai, Bangalore, Coimbatore, New Delhi and Mumbai as part of its efforts to reach out to more people from Kerala, Mr Murali added.

Also on the anvil is an increase in programming targeted at the `Gulf' region, he said. As part of this initiative, the channel, which has a presence in the Dubai Media City, will organise special events in several West Asian cities in December this year, he said.

As part of its third anniversary celebrations, the channel will organise a `mega show' in Thiruvananthapuram on August 16, Mr Murali said.
