SSI Cluster approach to set up manufacturing corridors urged Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Aug. 14 THE Andhra Pradesh Government should declare the `Jeedimetla-Zahirabad' stretch as a manufacturing activity corridor to spur industrial activity in the small and medium sectors (SMEs) to begin with. Making this plea, the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Small Industries Association-Small Scale Industries Centre (FAPSIA-SSI) said the Government should adopt the cluster approach for the creation of manufacturing corridors in different parts of the State. The centre, which is one of the identified nodal agents for taking up designated work by the State Government, has been entrusted with the job of studying the status of SSI units engaged in the manufacture of machine tools and high precision components in the three industrial areas of Balangar-Jeedimetla-Kukatpally, also called the BJK-Triangle. As part of this study, the centre utilised the services of the internees of the Geetham Institute of Foreign Trade (GIFT), Visakhapatnam, and a sub-committee headed by the Director of the Small Industries Services Institute (SISI), Hyderabad. Stating that there was an immediate need to identify and declare areas as clusters specific to certain industrial sectors, the FAPSIA-SSI Centre has planned a daylong seminar on August 23 in the city. The seminar would discuss the concepts of clusterisation and forming consortiums of all the stakeholders such as the Government Agencies, commercial institutions and the entrepreneurs, a press release said. The entrepreneurs of the BJK Triangle, who are engaged in the manufacture of machine tools and precision components, would share their experiences. The State Government has also identified about eight sectors and possible areas as mega clusters for development.
