Real Estate & Construction KSPHC hopes to save on costs thru e-procurement Our Bureau
Bangalore , Aug.14 IN a significant step that is expected to bring considerable savings and reduce project completion time, the Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation (KSPHC) has adopted e-procurement mechanism through Internet for its various construction projects. KSPHC is involved in widespread construction activity, which includes housing for police personnel, apart from construction of jail complex and non-housing projects. "The whole process is extremely transparent and is in line was existing policies and an extension of the e-governance initiative taken up by us in line with our State Government's policies. Further, the e-tendering process, which was conducted online, helped us know the existing trends in the market and get commercially beneficial offers," said Mr R. Srikumar, Chairman &Managing Director of KSHPC. Talking to Business Line, Mr B. Srinivas, Executive Engineer (Quality Control), said the corporation hoped to achieve six to seven per cent savings in materials procurement costs. Besides, the online platform would help in issuing work orders in less than four days as against one month taken through the offline process. This would result in faster implementation of projects and eliminate the possibility of cartelisation by bidders. KSPHC used the technology from Wipro 01 Markets whose team initiated the process with intense groundwork based on the client's specific requirements. Suppliers who met the client's specifications were identified, trained and brought on to the online bid platform. It turned out to be a landmark event with all activities being done completely online. Wipro-01markets, is the e-procurement arm of Wipro conglomerate, and has till date conducted over 450 sourcing projects.
