Global pepper meet begins on Monday

THE 31st session of the Jakarta-based International Pepper Community (IPC) will begin here on Monday.

The five-day conference would be inaugurated by the Governor of Kerala, Mr Sikander Bakht, at a function to be presided over by Mr P.C. Thomas, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice.

Nearly 150 delegates from 21 countries are participating in the conference, which will have sessions on marketing, quality standards, meeting of pepper exporters and importers, an official release here said.

The delegates, it said, are drawn from pepper producing countries such as Brazil, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. Also delegates from pepper importing countries such as Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, Morocco, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Poland, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland and UAE would be participating. Besides, representatives from Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) and International Trade Centre (ITC), Geneva are expected to attend the sessions.
