Hyderabad , Aug. 30

THE State Bank of India (SBI) has asked its branch managers to keep tabs on the transactions involving 23 "terrorist organisations" identified and listed in the schedule to the Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance, 2001.

In a circular, the bank directed the branch managers to bring it to the notice of "appropriate authorities under the Ordinance (now an Act) if they found anything that violates extant Acts or normal banking operations."

"We have received a fresh list of nine terrorist organisations from the Reserve Bank of India. These nine organisations are notified under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA), 2002. Keep a watchful eye on the transactions of these organisations," the circular said.

It asked the managers to instruct the staff down the line to take note of the development and ensure "meticulous compliance".

The nine "terrorist organisations" listed in the circular are CPI (M-L) People's War, including all its formations and front organisations, Maoist Communist Centre (MCC), Al Badr, Jamait-ul-Mujahideen, Al-quaida, Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DEM), Tamil Nadu Liberation Army (TNLA), Tamil National Retrieval Troops (TNRT) and Akhil Bharat Nepali Ekta Samaj (ABNES).
