Software Rockwell plans to set up e-manufacturing facility Our Bureau
New Delhi , Sept. 3 ROCKWELL Automation has firmed up plans to set up a new e-manufacturing software development and integration facility in Bangalore. Rockwell, which logged close to $28 million in sales of automation equipment and services in India last year, already has an applications lab in Bangalore that develops solutions for the company's operations globally. The new facility was aimed at taking advantage of the technical knowhow available in the country to develop e-manufacturing software for the company, Rockwell Automation's President (Asia Pacific), Mr Scott L Summerville, told Business Line here. Rockwell, he said, was focused on helping organisations to modernise, upgrade or retrofit in order to "wring out more productivity" in an environment where the stress was on best utilisation of an organisation's assets. "During the dotcom boom of the nineties, manufacturing got left behind. But the movement globally is to connect the factory floor with e-marketing and have systems that connect manufacturing to other parts of an enterprise. We are aware of these trends and are developing solutions that are modular and scalable and can be layered on to production systems already in place," Mr Summerville said. Asked how different Rockwell solutions were from Enterprise Resource Management (ERP) products, he said that ERP did not take care of manufacturing. Rockwell aimed to provide solutions that were more practical and could help a manufacturing unit to adapt to a dynamic production schedule.
