Siemens unit upgrades product

BANGALORE: Siemens Communication Systems (SCS), the Bangalore-based software division of Siemens Public Communication Networks Ltd (SPCNL), announced on Wednesday the launch of its upgraded Home Location Register (HLRi) product, which helps facilitate calls on a mobile network.

The new product, HLRi, would be capable of handling up to four million subscribers, ten times more than the Siemens' currently deployed systems, said Mr Manfred Grenzhaeuser, Director, SCS. The product could be deployed in GSM and 3G networks and was configured for a maximum downtime of two minutes in a year, he said.

About 80 per cent of the work on developing the product for the global market had been undertaken at SCS' Bangalore centre, he said. HLRi had been tested by two European operators and was undergoing acceptance tests in China, Taiwan and Colombia, he said.
