Events Centre to help FCRI to be centre of excellence Sajeev Kumar V.
Palakkad , Sept. 22 THE Union Government will lend all its support to help the Fluid Control Research Institute (FCRI) emerge as a centre of excellence in its endeavour to maintain accurate flow measurement and control techniques for industrial requirements and standardisation at the national and international levels, Mr Subodh Mohite, the Union Minister for Heavy Industry and Public Enterprise, has said. Inaugurating the international conference on hydrocarbon flow measurement here on Monday, he said his Ministry was in touch with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry to enable FCRI to interact with industries in the sector and extent its facilities for field/lab evaluation. The Ministry is actively supporting FCRI to extend its expertise in measurement techniques and standardisation in the hydrocarbon area. It is a specialised operation in terms of accuracy realisation to international-level practices and needs to induct latest trends in the hydrocarbon industrial operations. Even in developed countries, there are specific areas and accuracies recommended by regulatory boards in different phases such as exploration, processing of crude, refining stage of hydrocarbon and commercial distribution networks related to custody transfer, he added. FCRI is well positioned to meet the flow measurement needs of the industry at large and leading organisations such as ONGC, GAIL, Cairn Energy Systems, Reliance Industries Ltd, NIKO, etc. are availing FCRI expert service for their site flow measurement requirements. According to the Minister, the Institute has also received recognition from the Union Ministry of Civil Supplies for certification of oil and gas flow devices handling equipments to International Legal Standards. Large number of flow devices had been approved under these activities and had saved time and expense for the Indian Flow industry. Encouraging exploratory activities in the hydrocarbon sector in the country's West and SouthEast reflects the promising growth trend that the industry would be undergoing in near future. There is an urgent need for ascertaining techno-commercial aspects in a broad framework of these activities and FCRI forms an important element in extending its high-tech services to the industry, he added. The three-day conference, jointly organised by FCRI and Petroleum India International, aims to highlight various measurement techniques practised in hydrocarbon flow industries and providing a common platform to users and designers. Around 300 delegates, including scientists, engineers and other industrial functionaries from India and abroad, are attending the conference.
