Jaitley, Shourie to discuss SC ruling on oil PSUs

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Sept. 22

THE Union Law and Justice Minister, Mr Arun Jaitley, and Disinvestment and Telecommunications Minister, Mr Arun Shourie, are likely to formally meet on Thursday to discuss the legal options that are available to the Government on the Supreme Court judgement on HPCL and BPCL.

The Supreme Court had recently stayed the divestment exercise in the two oil PSUs and ruled that the Government must get Parliament's approval for divesting its stakes in these two PSUs. The legal options available include a "limited review" of the judgement by the Supreme Court.

"Both of us (Mr Arun Shourie and Mr Arun Jaitley) will most likely meet on Thursday on this matter," Mr Jaitley told reporters, when asked whether any decision has been taken by the Government on the matter of the Supreme Court judgement.

Mr Jaitley would attend an investors' meet in Hong Kong on Tuesday and is likely to return on Wednesday. Mr Shourie would have returned by then from Germany.

Besides discussing the options on HPCL and BPCL disinvestment, the two Ministers are also likely to discuss the TDSAT ruling on licensing condition of WLL operators.
