New Delhi , Sept. 22

STAR News today submitted a fresh application to the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry seeking permission to uplink from India with the Kolkata-based ABP Ltd holding a majority stake.

The company seeking permission is Media Content and Communication Services (MCCS) with Mr Aveek Sarkar of the ABP Group as the Chairman. The members of the board include Star India CEO, Mr Peter Mukherjea, ABP's Mr Arup Sarkar, Mr A. Lahiri, Mr Naresh Chandra, the journalist, Mr S. Nihal Singh. Ms Ravina Raj Kohli continues to be the President of Star News while Mr Sanjay Pugalia would be the Chief Editor. Sources said that the company's authorised share capital is Rs 70 crore, while the paid-up capital is Rs 1 lakh. "The other shell companies such as Touch TeleContent Pvt Ltd and Rentworks Pvt Ltd would be subsumed in MCCS. There would be no outsourcing or remote control," source said.

I&B officials have not given any timeframe by when the application would be cleared, as the new members of the board would have to get clearance from the Home Ministry. Sources said that prima facie, MCCS has managed to fall in line with the revised guidelines.
