Tea trade subdued at Coonoor

P.S. Sundar

Coonoor , Oct. 9

DOMESTIC tea trade remained subdued this week following the Pooja holidays with many Gujarat-based buyers who normally pay higher prices and pick up quality teas choosing to postpone their purchases.

Hindustan Levers Ltd operated, although it picked up only select gradesThe buyers for the Pakistani markets were seen selecting suitable teas for Rs 36 a kg, while those for Iraq were active around Rs 33.

A noticeable feature, however, was that these buyers were also choosing CTC teas in preference to the exportable orthodox grades.

Consequently, the orthodox teas suffered. On the leaf front, good liquoring CTC teas were steady, but the low priced ones were up by Rs 2 a kilo.kg.

On the dust counter, internal buyers picked up only selective grades.
