APGenco registers highest PLF

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Oct. 20

ANDHRA Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Ltd (AP Genco) on Sunday announced that the corporation has registered a record plant load factor (PLF) of about 85.7 per cent, which the corporation maintained was the highest in the country.

The Chairman of AP Genco, Mr J. Parthasarathy, told presspersons today that such a high PLF, was possible due to efforts taken by the corporation to refurbish most of the nine ageing coal generation plants in the State. All the major plants of AP Genco have been overhauled and refurbished and this had also enhanced their efficiencies. Last year also, the corporation's PLF was the highest among the country.

Further, the PLF at the gas-based power station in Vijjeswaram was the highest among gas stations in the country and was pegged at 90.9 per cent. This high PLF has enabled the corporation to generate more power at lower fuel intake, he explained.

For the first half ended September 2003, Mr Parthasarathy said the gross turnover crossed the Rs 2,000-crore mark and touched Rs 2,050 crore. AP Genco's total input towards the power system in the State works out to about 50 per cent and the rest is from central generating stations and independent power producers.

With regard to financial restructure, he said that about Rs 1,893 crore high-cost loans were swapped with low-cost loans. This has helped the corporation in saving about Rs 168 crore. Along the same approach, the corporation plans to swap Rs 1,493 crore of loans with low cost loans. This move is expected to help save about Rs 170 crore over the next five years.

This high PLF was significant as the corporation had to cope up with backing down of about 245 mu at AP Genco's thermal stations either due to system constraints or lack of demand. If this backed down energy was taken into consideration, the PLF would have been about 87.5 per cent.
