Software Karnataka top software exporter: ESC Our Bureau
New Delhi , Nov. 2 KARNATAKA exported software worth Rs 14,100 crore ($2.91 billion) in 2002-03 to emerge as the leading software exporting State in the country, according to the Electronic and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC). Tamil Nadu came second with exports worth Rs 7,500 crore ($1.55 billion), ESC said in a statement. Overall, southern States continued to lead the tally in 2002-03, aggregating Rs 25,920 crore ($5.36 billion), it added. Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Pondicherry accounted for Rs 4,100 crore, Rs 205 crore and Rs 15 crore respectively. The southern states were followed by the North with total software exports from the region touching Rs 11,865 crore ($2.45 billion). Uttar Pradesh exported software to the tune of Rs 4,500 crore while Delhi and Haryana raked in Rs 4,372 crore and Rs 2,734 crore respectively. Punjab, Rajasthan and Chandigarh made Rs 70 crore, Rs 47 crore and Rs 31 crore respectively. Western States came third at Rs 7,115 crore, with Maharashtra accounting for the lion's share of Rs 7,000 crore from the region. The eastern region recorded software exports of Rs 1,600 crore. Of this, West Bengal accounted for Rs 1,300 crore, ESC said.
