Now, SMS to woo voters

New Delhi , Nov. 11

IT'S not just school bags or freebies that political parties are using to woo electorates. The SMS is also becoming an important tool.

While the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) has finalised a deal with Mobile Mantra, a mobile messaging product and solution company for the service, the Congress party is also in talks with the company.

According to the company, political parties will be able to send tailor-made SMS campaigns. It will enable them to send slogans as simple flash messages, party logos as picture message, party song as ring tone, updates about rallies or public meetings, reminders to all voters give polling booth locations through SMS and manifesto highlights, among other things.

Officials in the company said this would help political parties be directly in touch with the voters. "The BJP has decided to use the system and talks are on with the Congress. We expect other political parties to also opt for this service," said officials.
