Bank credit up Rs 8,798 crore

BANK credit has risen by Rs 8,798 crore for the fortnight ended October 31, to touch Rs 7,61,210 crore.

This is inclusive of food credit, which increased by Rs 1,869 crore to Rs 36,020 crore and non-food credit which grew by Rs 6,929 crore to touch Rs 7,25,189 crore, according to the RBI's Weekly Statistical Supplement.

Loans and advances to State governments increased by Rs 1,012 crore to Rs 5,083 crore.

Total accommodation provided by scheduled commercial banks to the commercial sector in the form of bank credit and investments in shares, debentures, bonds and commercial paper, etc, increased by Rs 43,560 crore to Rs 8,16,255 crore during this period.

Year-on-year money supply was at 11.9 per cent.
