Speed governors must by Dec 1 in Kerala

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Regional Transport Officer (RTO) has announced that all stage carriers and heavy transport vehicles should feature `speed governors', conforming to AIS:018 standards, by December 1.

Fitment of speed governors would henceforth be incorporated as a condition in the procedures leading to grant of a permit, an official spokesman quoted the RTO as saying.

This is part of the Government for reining in overspeeding heavy vehicles, which have been involved in a spate of mishaps leading to loss of many lives, apart from grievous injuries sustained by others.

Plying of vehicles without speed governors would be treated as an offence. Vehicle owners have been directed to get them fitted, and get the RTO to attest the same. They have been also asked to present the permit documents before the RTO and incorporate the speed governor provision before December 1, the spokesman said.
