Hyderabad , Nov. 17 MENTOR Graphics Corporation, an electronic design automation solutions provider, has announced plans to expand its Indian operations. The company plans to strengthen its R&D facility and create a global support centre early next year. Commissioning its new facility at Hyderabad, the President and Chief Operating Officer of Mentor Graphics, Mr Greg Hinckley, said: "We successfully continue to expand our R&D sites in Hyderabad and Noida. These sites have become strategic to Mentor's operations, with mainstream products for printed circuit board design, emulation and other electronic design automation areas being developed and enhanced in India. "There is also an emerging focus on new products development to continue to be competitive. To augment the expansion plan, we will continue to invest in India and recruit more people. From about 250 people, this is likely to go up to about 350. We are on track with regard to our investment plans of $50 million, which we had announced last year. Of this, we have invested about $10 million, and expect to take up expansion phasewise," he said. Both Hyderabad and Noida have R&D centres, with the latter coming through the acquisition of Ikos Inc, concluded last year. Together, these centres form the largest R&D unit outside the US for Mentor. The Indian facility of Mentor Graphics has played a key role in delivering effective EDA tools and methodologies. Each centre is focussed on key EDA application space, and the Ikos Inc acquisition has provided special thrust in the area of emulation, he said. Dr Srinivas Mandavilli, Managing Director of Mentor Graphics India, said that the company was in the process of establishing a global customer support centre. This centre, to be operational by first quarter of 2004, would provide `technology support for our global clientele and have about 30 highly skilled engineers.'
