Events Kolkata set to get second IT complex Our Bureau
Kolkata , Nov. 17 KOLKATA will soon get a second IT complex. Spread over 40 acres near the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass, Sunrise City will have three towers - Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. It will be built in partnership with the private sector at a cost of Rs 250 crore. Stating this at a function held at the sidelines of Infocom 2003, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mr Buddhadev Bhattacharjee, said that non-availability of space at the existing electronics complex at Salt Lake was a big problem since 185 companies already operate from there. Hence, the need for a new complex for housing IT and knowledge-based industries was felt. Global tenders to engage consultants for Sunrise City have already been floated and three firms have been short-listed. Sunrise City would be located within a 30-minute drive from the airport as well as from the central business district. Mr Bhattacharjee said that another 200-acre tract has been identified at Rajarhat where infrastructure for IT and knowledge-based industries would be set up. He urged investors to invest in the IT sector in the State and assured that all clearances would be given "within one month of applying".
