Forestland allotment blocked by Kerala

Our Bureau

KOCHI: The State Government has blocked the decision of the Plantation Corporation of Kerala (PCK) to hand over 1,100 acres of forestland in its possession to private parties for vanilla cultivation.

The PCK, which was given the land by the forest department on lease, had decided to allot the same under a licensing system, which is said to be in violation of the lease deed.

According to official sources, there appears to be some irregularities in the deal and hence the Government decided to stop it. The PCK had decided to allot 1,100 acres of land to 10 individuals for vanilla cultivation on a security of Rs 1 lakh from each party. The Opposition parties had alleged that there was corruption in the deal besides violation of rules.
