Events `Corporate, spiritual leaders must work for peaceful society' Our Bureau
Bangalore , Nov. 21 THE need to forge a strong bondage among leaders in the corporate, political and spiritual sectors to achieve the common goal of eliminating poverty, hunger and hatred was highlighted at the three-day international symposium on ``Corporate Culture and Spirituality'' organised by the Art of Living Foundation here. Pointing to the failure of the corporate and political leadership in stemming the slide in ethical governance and benefits of the developmental and economic gains reaching the people, speakers said spirituality played a vital role in strengthening the thinking process and giving clarity of purpose in approaching issues and problems and it was time that corporates adopt strong spiritual values in their pursuit of governance to increase returns to shareholders. "Corporate leader is the kingpin for transforming the society and with the political leaders having failed us it is time for the corporate leaders to take up the cause of transformation of the society from its present challenges," said Mr N.Vagul, Chairman of ICCI Bank. He said " spirituality has a larger purpose of freeing the mind from `I' consciousness which affects the perceptions societal welfare". Mr B.K. Modi, Chairman of Modicorp, said spirituality had an important role to play and it was time corporate and spiritual leaders took up the challenges and fought terrorism and diminishing ethical practices to establish a peaceful society for wealth generation and distribution. "It is only the coordinated wisdom of the political, spiritual and the corporate leadership that can lead the society out of moral conflicts," he said. The conference was also addressed by Ms Jacquelin Sales, CEO of Hazmed, USA, who highlighted her experiences in practicing the `art of living', a spiritual exercise through meditation to learn about the inner self for a better thinking.
