Cinema Children's film fest comes to a close Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Nov. 21 AN Angel for May, directed by Harley Cokeliss of the UK, has bagged the Golden Elephant at the 13th International Children's Film Festival, which concluded here on Thursday. The Netherlands' Minoes won the Silver Elephant. The two awards carried a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000, respectively. Mehdi Hashemi (Best Child Artiste - Boy) of Iran and Agam Rudberg (Best Child Artiste - Girl) of Israel have won the Silver Elephant and Rs 25,000 in cash each for their roles in The Day of Result and Under Water, respectively. Mr Chen Kaige of China received the Best Director award for his film, Together. Heda-Hoda, directed by Vinod Ganatra and produced by CFSI, remained the lone winner from India, with the film winning the Special Jury Prize. The jury, however, made special mention of Son of Alladin, a full-length animation film directed by veteran director Singeetam Srinivasa Rao. "The film made a good lead in animation films in the country," the jury felt. The glittering valedictory held at the Lalitha Kala Thoranam was attended by Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister, Mr Pawan Chopra, Secretary (Information and Broadcasting), Govt of India, Ms Asha Parekh, Chairperson of the International Jury, and Ms Raveena Tandon, Chairperson of the Children's Film Festival of India. In a sharp contrast with the inaugural, the valedictory was preceded by brilliant cultural performances by students from different schools. Concert for a Carrot Pie, an Estonian film directed by Kontesrt Porgandipirukale, was adjudged the Best Animation Short Film (less than 60 minutes) and received the Silver Elephant and Rs 50,000 in cash. In the Asian Panorama section, the Silver Elephant for the Best Film went to Iranian film Gipsy, directed by Ali Shah Hatami. The second Best Film in this section, Touched by Love (China), bagged a Golden Plaque and a cash prize of Rs 50,000. The Children's Jury, however, cast its vote to Virginia's Run (Canada) directed by Peter Markle, while the International Critics' Jury favoured the Chinese film Together. The two films received a Golden Plaque and Rs 50,000 in cash.
