Borland planning R&D facility here

Vishwanath Kulkarni

Bangalore , Nov. 21

BORLAND Software is exploring the options of setting up research and development unit in India.

"We are seriously considering the option of having R&D operations in India, which is one of the major emerging market for us," said Mr Nick Jackson, Director of business development for the Asia-Pacific region, adding that something concrete should emerge over the next six to eight months.

The proposed Indian R&D operations would be in addition to the 45-strong R&D centre in Singapore, the only one outside the US. "We would like to have our R&D operations closer to our emerging markets such as India and China," he said.

"India and China are definitely the rising stars for us even as outsourcing is becoming mainstream," Mr Jackson said.

Borland is aggressively targeting the software developer base in India with its tools such as Jbuilder, Delphi and the application lifecycle management suite of solutions among others. "We have been growing at a healthy rate of 30 per cent year-on-year and are hopeful that the strong outsourcing momentum witnessed by Indian IT sector should accelerate our growth," said Mr Satyen H. Parikh, Managing Director, Borland Software India Pvt Ltd.
