Allahabad Bank taunts defaulters

Our Bureau

Chennai , Dec. 3

THE Allahabad Bank officials have taken the fight with recalcitrant defaulters literally to the streets, by gathering in front of their offices and shouting slogans such as "Repay bank dues", "Do not cheat banks'', and "Live honourably''.

Led by the Assistant General Managers, Mr S. Pandurangan and Mr S.K. Banerjee, a group of 30 officers went to 24 `defaulters', who collectively owe the bank some Rs 4 crore.

Mr Pandurangan called it an awareness creating campaign, which the bank intends to conduct in other cities too.

On Wednesday, the bank met with some success — an instant repayment of Rs 50,000 came from the proprietor of Hotel Sagar, who owes the bank about Rs 10 lakh.
