Strategy Variety - Resorts & Amusement Parks Mayajaal to set up three more centres in AP, TN Sriram Srinivasan
Chennai , Jan. 5 PENTAMEDIA'S Mayajaal, which wants to market itself as a venue for businessmen who want to combine work with entertainment, has "aggressive plans" to set up similar centres in Hyderabad, Coimbatore and Tiruchi. The company's Business Head, Mr S. Shanmugavadivelu, told Business Line that the Andhra Pradesh Government has offered land for Mayajaal to set up a centre in Hyderabad. The company, however, wants to study the business models that will work in the three cities, before taking the plunge. The Chennai-based company also hopes to increase revenues from business events as a percentage of total earnings, from the current 15 per cent to 25 per cent next year. This is vital for Mayajaal, as corporates will bring in a steady stream of income while the business contributed by the general entertainment category, which forms the lion's share of the company's earnings, is marked by fluctuations. The entertainment centre's theatres, bowling alleys, shopping centres and video game parlours are busy only during weekends and vacations. So, Mayajaal's newfound focus on corporates will help take care of the lull period, Mr Shanmugavadivelu said. The company's marketing team, along with Krish Srikkanth Sports Entertainment, is targeting corporates and high networth individuals to market its facility. Mayajaal has over 30 corporate members now, out of a possible 400. The company expects more members under its fold once its sports village and resort become operational at least in another six months. The 18-acre sports village The Champ Sports Village and a 60-cottage resort, which also houses a convention centre, are being built at a cost of Rs 25 crore, financed entirely by internal accruals, Mr Shanmugavadivelu claimed.
