Onion prices have been hovering around Rs 8.50 to Rs 11 per kg at the retail level. The Corporation has also planned to procure an additional 50,000 quintals in the next few days to ensure that the price control effort is sustained. The onion stocks would be procured through Maharastra market yards, especially from Lasalgaon, Pimplegaon, Raavur and transported to the districts as per indents placed by the Joint Collectors of the respective districts. The buffer stock obtained would be stored in ventilated godowns as provided by the Marketing Departments. The Corporation also said in a release that the control priced onion would be sold through Gruhamitra counters, co-operative super bazaars in addition to the rythu bazaars. The Department of Consumer Affairs, Food and Civil Supplies and the Civil Supplies Corporation are closely monitoring the price trend with a view to contain the rising prices.
