Tata Indicom clocks 300 pc growth in fixed line segment

TATA Indicom has announced that it has crossed the half-million customer mark in the fixed wireless segment, registering a 300 per cent growth during the calendar year 2003.

The operator has over 5,00,000 fixed wireless retail customers and over 30,000 fixed wireless payphones, according to a news release from the company.

The Tata Indicom Fixed Wireless is a fixed line with the `intelligent' properties of a mobile phone like SMS, caller ID, missed call notification, and high-speed Internet capability.

These phones are available across its six circles of Maharashtra, New Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat.

"The market response to this product has been very positive and we see tremendous growth potential in this product category going forward," said Mr Amit Bose, President, Telecom, Tata TeleServices Ltd.

TTSL has licences for 11 more circles.

These include Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh (East), Uttar Pradesh (West), Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, and Kerala.
