Thiruvananthapuram , Feb. 2

THE State Government is in the process of implementing a series of measures to popularise floriculture in the State, said Ms K.R. Gouri Amma, Minister for Agriculture.

She made this remark while inaugurating a seminar on floriculture organised in the city as part of the `Flower, fruit and vegetable show 2004'.

The measures being considered by the Government include proposals to set up special model farms for floriculture, she said.

In his keynote address, Dr N.K. Dadlani, Managing Director, DakshHortitec Pvt Ltd, said floriculture has the potential to revolutionise the agri-business opportunities in Kerala. However, the State has to invest more resources into the development of this sector, he added.

Mr T.V. Gopinath of Rockwood Anthuriums, Mysore, said the local market for cut flowers is growing at approximately 20 per cent per annum.
