Budget Industry & Economy - Engineering Capital goods: Countering import competition Sowmya Sundar
The Government has announced that the deemed export benefits would be extended to indigenous manufacturers who make products that are, at present, exempted from countervailing duty (CVD) on imports. Some of the products that are exempt from CVD are pumps, fans and compressors. Domestic manufacturers of these products such as KSB Pumps, ELGI Equipments, Ingersoll Rand and Crompton Greaves will benefit by way of lower import duties on inputs and refund of terminal excise duty. These players would now have a level-playing field vis-à-vis imported goods.
