`More clarity needed on BPO tax issue'

MR Narayana Murthy has called for more clarity on the Income-Tax Department's latest circular on taxation of BPO units operating in the country. The Central Board of Direct Taxes had issued the circular in the first week of January. "Whatever rules and regulations that the Government wants to introduce has to be clear to the practitioners. In the circular there is no clarity on what is core and what is non-core. It is still confusing. This is not the right way to create a rule. I have no doubt that the officer concerned will take immediate action to correct the situation," he said.
