The Hindu Business Line : Nabard aid to grow medicinal plants

HYDERABAD: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has agreed to provide financial assistance to farmers for raising medicinal plants, according to Dr Manoranjan Bhanja, Chief Executive Officer of the Andhra Pradesh Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Board.

Addressing the fourth board meeting here, he said medicinal plants were being grown in about 18,000 acres in the State. "We are going to launch a Web site soon to provide information on plantation and marketing as part of our plan to educate the farmers regarding the growth of medicinal and aromatic plants," Dr Bhanja said. The board would set up two demonstration gardens at Guntur and Himayatsagar for the benefit of the farmers.

The Minister for Health, Dr K. Sivaprasada Rao, has asked the board members to chalk out a plan of action to educate the farmers regarding the growth of medicinal and aromatic plants. He also wanted them to throw light on the business and marketing opportunities.
