HYDERABAD: The Centre has released Rs 32.83 lakh for the `Swadhar' scheme, which is aimed at assisting the women and children in distress.

The scheme envisages construction of a building at a cost of Rs 50 lakh that would house 200 beneficiaries. An amount of Rs 23.26 lakh would be spent on maintenance. While the Centre has sanctioned Rs 61.26 lakh for the scheme, the State Government would chip in 25 per cent of construction cost, besides providing land free-of-cost. The State has earmarked about six acres of land at Kukatpally village for the building.

According to a Government release, the target group includes widows deserted by their kin, women prisoners released from jail, women survivors of natural disasters and runaways from brothels and women victims of terrorist violence and their children below the age of 12.
