Foreign Relations Industry & Economy - Radio/TV Prasad urges Pak not to block Indian content Our Bureau
New Delhi , Feb. 4 THE Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Minister, Mr Ravi Shankar Prasad, on Wednesday urged Pakistan not to block transmission of Indian content as this did not augur well with the ongoing confidence building measures between the two neighbours. Speaking at the Tenth International conference of the Broadcasting Engineers Association, Mr Prasad said, "Pakistan should be as liberal in transmission of Indian contents as we are, it will strengthen people-to-people contact. "Realising well the importance of free-to-air transmission catering to a majority of the population and in turn meeting the larger social objective, the Government is committed to extending fullest support to public broadcasters." The Minister also added that keeping pace with the technical advancements in broadcast media, all channels of Doordarshan would be fully digitised by June this year. Consumer satisfaction should be the driving force in Broadcast Technology development, he added. On the issue of pay channels and free-to-air channels (FTA) in the country, he observed that the FTAs would continue to dominate and it was now time to deliberate on whether the pay channels should continue to drive the satellite television industry.
